Shipper

Facility or company where freight is picked up.

Receiver

Facility or company where freight is delivered.

Consignor

Party sending the freight.

Consignee

Party receiving the freight.

Dock

Warehouse area where trailers are loaded or unloaded.

Dock Door

Specific warehouse door assigned for loading or unloading.

Appointment

Scheduled pickup or delivery time.

FCFS

First Come, First Served facility timing.

Check-In

Arrival process at a shipper or receiver.

Guard Shack

Security checkpoint at a facility entrance.

Pickup Number

Reference number used to pick up freight.

BOL

Bill of Lading, the main shipping document.

POD

Proof that freight was delivered.

Seal

Numbered security device on trailer doors.

Seal Number

Unique number printed on the trailer seal.

Pallet

Platform used to move and stack freight.

Skid

Freight platform similar to a pallet.

Lumper

Third-party unloading worker or service.

Lumper Fee

Charge paid for unloading labor.

Live Load

Driver waits while trailer is loaded.

Live Unload

Driver waits while trailer is unloaded.

Drop & Hook

Drop one trailer and hook another trailer.

Loaded Call

Update that freight has been loaded.

Empty Call

Update that trailer is unloaded and empty.

OS&D

Over, Short, and Damaged freight issue.

Shortage

Missing freight compared to expected count.

Overage

Extra freight beyond expected count.

Damaged Freight

Freight with visible or reported damage.

Detention

Pay for excessive loading or unloading wait time.

Driver Assist

Driver helps load, unload, count, or handle freight.

Piece Count

Number of pieces listed for the shipment.

SLC

Shipper Load and Count.

Clean BOL

Signed BOL with no noted exceptions.
